Introduction

Westland Wyvern were used by the British Navy during the 1950s. It saw combat action in the days of Suez Crisis.

The kit

The Trumpeter kit falls together quite nicely. Careful dry-fitting and a bit of putty will be required. The kit is full of details and options. I decided to build a "heavy-duty" version, not exactly true to the limitations of real plane - it is overweighted.

Painting and weathering

For the Sky I used Pactra paint on dark preshading. For the upper surfaces Dark sea gray I used Agama paint. Those are quite nice acrylic paints. I decided to paint stripes which come as decals with the kit. I used enamel paints by Humbrol and that was mistake - pigment is too thick and a layer of paint is far from being perfect.

For painting the canopy I used masks from Montex. They helped me a lot in making a rubber seal.

I applied an oil wash. I think it looks all right in all those rivets although some say they are oversized.

Conclusion

Irecommend this kit due to its complexity and need of being carefully planned for non-beginning modelers. But if you built a couple of models you will handle it ok. Kit details and unique feats (counterratating propellers) will make you look more advanced.
