Overview

This was a commission build done for a retired crew member.  Build time was approx. 6 months, from Sept. 2010 to March 2011.  Every measure was taken to ensure accuracy, 100's of close up detail photos were used to replicate many areas of the ship striving for the most accurate build possible.  the Truman is represented as she appeared in 2001-2003.  Of all the parts in the kit, ONLY the jet blast deflectors were used "Out of the Box" with no modifications, scratch building, or aftermarket details.  Both WEM and both GMM PE sets were used, as well as parts from Tom's, JAG, Veteran and BMK.  Decals for the aiewing are Starfighter decals, decals for the ship are GMM, and Commander series.

Island

This build required a major overhaul of the island to reshape and enlarge it.  The mast required extensive aletrations and detailing.  All the domes on the island and the platform on the front of the island were scratch built.  the interior is illuminated with LED's and the island #'s are lit using 150-200 individual strands of fiber optic cables.

Hangar bay

The interior hangar bay was completely scratch built using styrene and some bits from the inside of an old cell phone.  Photos were used to ensure accuracy of the interior.  It is hard to see, but there are crew inside the control room in the hangar as well.  Interior illuminated using LED's.

Stern

This area again required a lot of scratch buildign and re working of parts.  The boat dock had to be modified to fit, and there are scratch built .50 cal gin mounts (no guns as these are only used in port or in danger areas, not during normal operations).
