Finding the proper display base for our models is not an easy task if we're building a not that usual subject. Flattops & More hobbies can help us if we plan to build a diorama of a deck section of a Yorktown class carrier. The company produces different style and scale deck sections made of wood. This kit is available in 1/48 and 1/72 scale.
I received several samples in one box, and it was very well packed. In the big box I've found the sets, and few sheets of foam to make the packaging safer. The individual sets were packaged nicely aswell.
The kit pack contains the deck section, the Photo Etched tie-downs in a tube to protect them from bending, 2 sheets of sandpaper and the instruction sheet with detailed build guide.
The base itself is made of more sheets of different wood, so it's strong enough to use it as a diorama base on itself, no strengthening needed. The only "upgrade" should be a framing. This is not a "Plug and Play" diorama base, you have to work with it, but the results can be very convincing as shown on the below diorama made by Rusty Keeler the producer of this kit. The recommended assembly of this kit is fairly unusual, and interesting. There are several options to build this set, but the planking can be simulated with cutting the sandpaper between the tie-down strips to the appropriate planking size. There are recommendations on the instructions ho to do that. I found the instruction sheet very helpful, and easy to follow, it's illustrated with photos of the certain steps.
