Take off- USS Intrepid launches its fighters

The order has been given to launch the first wave of fighters (F4U Corsairs) as the rest of the Intrepids crew prepares for the attack on the Japanese. The second wave of fighters are the F6F Hellcats. Their wings still folded, they are on standby waiting for their turn to be given the order to launch. The Intrepid is escorted by a Fletcher Class Destoyer whos crew watches as the attack begins.

Preparing the Torpedo squadron of TBF/TBM Avengers

The deck of the Intrepid is alive with activity as the crew prepares the Avengers before it is their turn to take off. The men are busy loading the planes but they are always keeping their eyes open for any Japanese planes that might try to sneek in and dive on the carrier.
