Introduction

Some time ago, Classic Airframes released the Westland Wyvern in 1/48 scale. This Royal Navy aircraft is a rare subject, and more and more popular to build, even though if it's not a kit that builds up by itself without any efforts. Probably that's the reason why Goffy Model released a really nice detail set for this kit. To be honest, I never heard about this company before, maybe because they are producing armour detail sets and figures mostly. I was really surprised when I got the CD with all the products, there are 63 different sets already on the market! I checked them all, and there are several aviation related detail sets too, and the most important for us, few naval aviation related ones are taking place in the product listing as well! Today I review the Westland Wyvern set, but I'll review the 1/48 S-3B Viking detail set too really soon!

First Impressions

I received both kits in one post, both kits were placed in a carton box. The set itself is placed in a carton box aswell, so it survived the journey without any damages, I did not find any missing or broken parts in the plastic bag. In the box you can find this plastic bag with the parts, and the 2 page instruction sheet.

Overview

As this is the first Goffy Model set I ever seen, I was really curious about the quality. After opening the bag, and inspecting the parts, I was really surprised, as all of the parts are really detailed, and everything is in great quality, just like the products of the big well known companies! The resin seems to be a really good quality one, it's bubble free, and I did not find any surface artifacts, so the resin casting job was done really carefully by the guys at Goffy Models!

I must say it's really a complete update set, you can find parts for all the critical areas. The set includes a cockpit tube with instrument panel (with instrument bodies on the backside!), arresting hook, new wheel bays, flaps and wingfold inserts to fold up the wings if you like. No ejection set is included in this set.

To use this kit, you must have some advanced modeling skills, it needs more work than installing a simple resin cockpit! As in every case you have to take care for the small parts, as the resin is rigid, and you can break the parts if you don't handle them carefully!

Conclusions

You need good modeling kills to build up the Classic Airframes kit with this set, but after the work you invested, you can get a really nice, rare aircraft with excellent details! I think it worth the effort if you're looking for something different, or you're simply fed up with the usual subjects, or you just find the Tomcat to beautiful! I can't wait to see a 1/48 Wyvern with folded wings!

I recommend this kit!
